Airsoft equipment consists of many types of equipment including the airsoft gun used to fire airsoft pellets, safety goggles, vests, equipment holders and gun accessories etc. The guns used in airsoft are normally copies of real firearms. Airsoft guns are classified as spring, electric or gas-powered. The gun is selected according the performance level such as battery life, magazine capacity and range.

BB guns are a type of air gun made to shoot spherical projectiles called BB’s after the Birdshot pellet of nearly same size. They can be pointed, but they are usually used for bird hunting. Recent BB guns have a barrel of a bore diameter – 4.5 mm. They are made up of steel plated with zinc or copper to prevent from corrosion and are 4.34-4.39 mm in diameter. Some manufacturers also make lead BB’s of slightly large diameter which are generally used in rifled BB gun barrels. Some Asian companies produce plastic BB’s for recreational purpose.

There is a craze amongst youths about using machine guns. Now, BB machine guns are available for you and you can use them in airsoft games.

The principle of machine gun is very simple to understand. It consists of number of barrels situated in a cylinder. Each barrel has a firing pin and breech. In old machine guns, you have to turn the crank which rotates the barrels in the cylinder. As each barrel reaches the top, it passes below a carousel magazine. Then, a new cartridge comes and the barrel is loaded.

Each firing pin has a tiny cam head to catch the grip of a slanted channel in the gun. As each barrel revolves around the cylinder, the groove drags the pin backward to push a tight spring. After a new cartridge is loaded into the breech, the pin cam slides out of channel and the spring forces it forward. The pin strikes the cartridge and fires the bullet.

In today’s machine guns, they use the power of the cartridge explosion for reloading

and re-cocking the gun after each shot. There are 3 basic methods for harnessing the power and they are Recoil system, Blowback system and Gas mechanism.
